A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN SHANNAN IGHODARO’S PUBLIC AFFAIRS
SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00), IN SUPPORT
OF A MEMORIAL DAY EVENT TO COMMEMORATE THE LIVES
OF VICTIMS OF COVID-19; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION
OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, according to a Washington Post report African Americans have been
disproportionately affected by the corona virus pandemic, and
WHEREAS, to date, the global pandemic has resulted in 2.97 million deaths and
in the U.S. over 564,000 lives have been lost to the deadly virus, and
WHEREAS, A growing concern across the country has been focused on ensuring
that the lives of those lost to the virus is not reduced to mere statistics, and
WHEREAS, Communities throughout the U.S., cities, states and even the federal
government have hosted memorial events in honor of the lives of persons (mothers,
fathers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, relatives, and friends) whose
legacy must never be forgotten, and
WHEREAS, On January 19, 2021, President Joe Biden memorialized the more
than 400,000 Americans who have died from Covid-19 during a vigil in Washington, as
many Americans took to social media in collective mourning, and
WHEREAS, on Saturday May 29, 2021 as we celebrate Memorial Day,
Councilwoman Shannan Ighodaro is planning a commemorative event “Unmasking the
Face of Covid” to honor the lives of our residents lost to the deadly pandemic, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Ighodaro is requesting an allocation of five thousand
dollars ($5,000) from the Seat 3 Public Affairs Special Event account for the Unmasking
Face of Covid Event to be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby support allocation of funds from Councilwoman Ighodaro’s Public Affairs Special
Event Account in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000) for the Unmasking Face of
Covid Event to be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 28, 2021.
