A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE RENAMING
OF BUNCHE PARK FOOTBALL FIELD TO THE “TEDDY
BRIDGEWATER JR., FIELD AT BUNCHE PARK” AND THE
DESIGNATION OF THE HOME BLEACHERS IN HONOR OF
TEDDY’S MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER, ROSE MURPHY
AND ELEANOR MURPHY. PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION
OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris is requesting that the City support the renaming
of Bunche park football field to the “Teddy Bridgewater Jr., Field at Bunche Park” and the
designation of the home bleachers in honor of Teddy’s mother and grandmother, Rose
Murphy and Eleanor Murphy, and
WHEREAS, Teddy was born and raised in the Bunche Park community, where he
frequented Bunche Park as one of the community’s youth football standouts, Teddy
eventually matriculated to Miami Northwestern Senior High school where he earned the
starting Quarterback position leading one of the Nation’s most high powered offense, and
WHEREAS, with a successful high school football career, Teddy earned the
designation as a four star recruit. With every University hoping to gain Teddy’s interest,
he decided to attend the University of Louisville, Teddy’s drive and athletic performance
on the collegiate level landed him the opportunity to be selected by the Minnesota Vikings
in 2014 National Football League (NFL) draft, and
WHEREAS, Teddy is making a five year financial commitment to the City to
sponsor the registration cost for interested youth participants of the Miami Gardens
Bunche Park Football and Cheer program, beginning July 2021 through July 2025, Teddy
understands the important role and positive impact park activities and its volunteers have
on our youths’ development, and
WHEREAS, Teddy wants to ensure that the youth in the Bunche Park community
and surrounding areas have the opportunity to participate in youth football and cheer, and
that the lack of financial resources not be a deterrent for youth who are interested, and
WHEREAS, Teddy will be making an annual contribution of Fifty-five Thousand
dollars and Zero cents (55,000.00), starting July 15, 2021 through July 15, 2025, This five
year annual contribution will cover the registration cost for youth football and cheer
participants interested in joining the Miami Gardens Bunche Park Cowboys football and
cheer program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 28, 2021.
