A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO HUNDRED FIFTY
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($250,000.00) TO BE FUNDED
THROUGH THE STATE HOUSING INITIATIVE PROGRAM
(SHIP) FUNDS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens (hereinafter “City”) has been awarded State
Housing Initiative Partnership funds pursuant to Subsection 420.907 et seq., Florida
Statute, and
WHEREAS, the award provides for implementation of projects designed to
address affordable housing needs of extremely low-income households, and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance
Programs (WAP) reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the
energy efficiency of their homes, while ensuring health and safety, and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates weatherization services
save low-income households an average of Four Hundred Dollars ($413.00) annually and
return an average of Two Dollars and Fifty-One Cents ($2.51) in energy and non-energy
related benefits for every dollar invested, and
WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) will total Two Hundred
Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00) and will be funded from the City’s State Housing
Initiative Program (hereinafter “SHIP”) Funds, and
WHEREAS, staff recommends City Council adopt this Resolution establishing the
City of Miami Gardens Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to be funded through
SHIP funds,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby adopts this Resolution establishing the City of Miami Gardens Weatherization
Assistance Program (WAP) in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars
($250,000.00) to be funded through SHIP funds.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JUNE 23, 2021.
