A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA TO SUPPORT U-TURN YOUTH
CONSULTING YOUTH SERIES TO COMBAT YOUTH
VIOLENCE, AUTHORIZING SPONSORSHIP FOR THE
INITIATIVE IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO THOUSAND FIVE
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500.00) FROM THE MAYOR’S
SPECIAL EVENT ACCOUNT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION
OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, in light of recent developments throughout Miami-Dade county
involving youth and gun violence, Mayor Rodney Harris finds it imperative for the City of
Miami Gardens to take a proactive approach as it relates to youth crime prevention, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris will be partnering with U-Turn Youth Consulting
(UYC), a full-service education and training consulting firm with extensive experience in
Youth Conflict Resolution; including prevention, intervention and community engagement
in South Florida, and
WHEREAS, UYC is proposing a five (5) session (Youth Series) to combat youth
violence, this prevention program is anticipated to launch the second Saturday in
September 2021, and will be hosted weekly, thereafter, on each subsequent Saturdays
at the Betty T. Ferguson Community Complex, and
WHEREAS, youth participants will be able to engage in five (5) sessions to
address issues that contribute to risky and violent behaviors, address the many stressors
that youth deal with daily, particularly as it relates to COVID-19, moreover, engage in
discussion regarding Youth-Police relations, youth will also learn rules to finance and how
to better handle money for a successful future, and will expose youth to the concept of
the village, and the need to continue to give back as part of the greater ecosystem we
call community, and
WHEREAS, the cost associated with this proposed Youth Series is 2,500.00, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris would like to fund this important initiative, as the
funding for this will be paid from the Mayor’s Public Affairs Special Events account line
item, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby support U-Turn Youth Consulting Youth Series to combat youth violence and
authorize sponsorship of the initiative in the amount of Two Thousand Five Hundred
Dollars ($2,500.00) from the Mayor's Special Event Account.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 14, 2021.
