A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACKOWLEDGING SEPTEMBER
21 AS WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, World Alzheimer’s Day was first recognized by Alzheimer’s Disease
International on September 21, 1994, encouraging Alzheimer’s organizations around the
world to concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia,
and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, a group
of disorders that impairs mental functioning, and
WHEREAS, in 2020, more than 11 million caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or
other dementias provided an estimated 15.3 billion hours of unpaid care, and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s remains the only cause of death among the top 10 in the
United States that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed, and
WHEREAS, an estimated 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease
today, and
WHEREAS, 580 thousand people are currently living with Alzheimer’s in Florida,
and it is projected that 700 thousand Floridians will be living with Alzheimer’s disease by
2025, and
WHEREAS, as life expectancy increases throughout the world, support for
Alzheimer’s research is more critical to families and communities than ever, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens recognizes that strengthened support for
Alzheimer's research and increased awareness of the disease are key to increasing the
probability of prevention and cure,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: EXPRESION OF RECOGNITION: The City Council of the City of Miami
Gardens hereby recognizes September 21st Annually as World Alzheimer’s Day in the
City of Miami Gardens.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take place immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 14, 2021.
