A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING TWO THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($2,000.00) FROM COUNCILMAN ROBERT
STEPHENS SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT IN SUPPORT OF
THE ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS FAIR TAKING PLACE ON
SEPTEMBER 16, 2021; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is recognized on a
global scale annually on June 15, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities
around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons
by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes
affecting elder abuse and neglect, and
WHEREAS, during the WEADD Fair on June 15, 2021, local organizations
provided the Miami Gardens senior community with resources to empower them to avoid
any potential abuse, neglect, or exploitation, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens recognizes the need to continuously provide
support and resources to the senior community, in order to prevent elder neglect and
abuse, and
WHEREAS, providing such services and resources on a continuous basis will help
establish the City of Miami Gardens as an Age-Friendly Community and garner increased
support from various other demographics, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens is requesting Two Thousand Dollars (2,000.00)
from the Seat 6 Special Events Account to support the Elder Abuse Awareness Fair taking
place on September 16, 2021,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) from the Seat 6
Special Events Account to support the Elder Abuse Awareness Fair taking place on
September 16, 2021.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take place immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 28, 2021.
