A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S SPECIAL EVENTS
ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SIX HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($600.00), FOR THE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
ESSAY CONTEST; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions made and the
important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States and celebrates
there heritage and culture, and
WHEREAS, the term Hispanic or Latino, refers to Puerto Rican, South or Central
American, and any other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race, and
WHEREAS, Hispanics have had a positive influence in our country through their
strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service, and
WHEREAS, to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month Councilwoman Linda
Julien is sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest which provides a one-time
award to three eligible City of Miami Gardens students within grades six to twelve in the
amount of $300 for the first place winner, $200 for the second place winner, and $100 for
the third place winner for a qualifying essay on a certain topic, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting an allocation of six hundred dollars
($600) from the FY 2021-2022 Seat 5 Public Affairs account subject to appropriations in
the approved FY 2021-20221 Budget,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby support allocations of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs Account in
the amount of six hundred dollars ($600) for the Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest
subject to appropriations in the approved FY 2021-2022 Budget.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
