RESOLUTION NO. 2021-134-3688
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE 2022 MIAMI
GARDENS FITNESS CHALLENGE; WAIVING STAFF COSTS
AND USAGE FEES FOR BETTY T. FERGUSON
RECREATIONAL COMPLEX FOR THE MONTHS OF JANUARY
TO MARCH 2022; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, historically, the Miami Gardens Fitness Challenge has offered
participants the opportunity to join free group exercise classes led by certified
instructors, such as yoga, boot camp and aqua fit; and
WHEREAS, the Fitness Challenge has demonstrated to participants that
maintaining a healthier lifestyle requires patience and determination, and when joined
together, people can hold each other accountable as they work towards their individual
goals; and
WHEREAS, in January 2022, the City of Miami Gardens will partner with various
community leaders and organizations to present the 2022 Miami Gardens Fitness
Challenge. This Challenge will take place over sixty (60) days spanning across the
months of January to March 2022; and
WHEREAS, Fitness Challenge activities will take place in the gymnasium of the
Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex and comply with CDC guidelines for social
gatherings; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens is requesting that the City of Miami
Gardens waive the fees associated with utilizing the gymnasium at the Betty T.
Ferguson Recreational Complex for the purpose of hosting the 2022 Miami Gardens
Fitness Challenge on dates to be determined from January to March 2022.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the waiving of all rental fees for the use of Betty T. Ferguson
Recreational Complex to conduct the 2022 Miami Gardens Fitness Challenge.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take place immediately upon
its final passage.
