A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING MARCH 8, 2022,
AS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY IN THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social,
economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and
WHEREAS, the day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity, and
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International
Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8th every year, and
WHEREAS, it commemorates the movement for women’s rights, and
WHEREAS, the earliest Women’s Day observance was held on February 28,
1909, in New York, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world
that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies, and
WHEREAS, International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration
and a call for gender parity, and
WHEREAS, the campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is
#BreakTheBias - Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to
move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing
field, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Shannan Ighodaro recommends the City Council
recognize March 8, 2022 as International Women’s Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby recognize March 8, 2022 as International Women’s Day .
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
