HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-007-3720_-_AIDS_Healthcare_Foundation_Partnership_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2022-007-3720 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING THE AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION AS A COMMUNITY PARTNER IN COMBATING THE HIV/AIDS EPIDEMIC IN MIAMI GARDENS; GRANTING THE AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION ACCESS TO CONDUCT TESTING AND EDUCATIONAL AWARENESS THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THE INTENT AND PURPOSE OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in 2019, there were 25,671 people living with HIV in Miami-Dade County and 1,170 people were newly diagnosed; and WHEREAS, in the same year, it is estimated that 2,263 of every 100,000 people were living with HIV within the 33054 zip code. This rate was among the highest in the state and Miami-Dade County is estimated to have the highest rate of new HIV cases in the nation; and WHEREAS, as an at-risk community, it is crucial that the City of Miami Gardens take swift action against the rising HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Florida. Developing community partnerships to increase HIV/AIDS awareness is crucial to decreasing the rate of infection and combatting this epidemic; and WHEREAS, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global nonprofit organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 1,500,000 people across 45 countries, and is currently the largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the world. The establishment of a community partnership with AHF will provide the organization with direct access to projects and programs hosted by the City of Miami Gardens; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a community partnership with AHF will provide the organization with direct access to projects and programs hosted by the City of Miami Gardens; and WHEREAS, this access includes allowing AHF to utilize of its Mobile Testing Unit (MTU) at community events and in at-risk neighborhoods. Through partnership with the City of Miami Gardens, AHF will be able to properly educate and supply the Miami Gardens community with effective healthcare resources, such as linkage to vital care. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: DocuSign Envelope ID: 3B6AAF81-B19E-48FB-B17A-4BFC391DE350 Page 2 of 2 Resolution No. 2022-007-3720 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby supports the establishment of partnership with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and authorizes the City Manager to take any and all steps necessary to implement the intent and purpose of this Resolution. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take place immediately upon its final passage.
