A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC
CITIZENS COMMITTEE TO COMMEMORATE THE 20TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS;
PROVIDING FOR A SUNSET DATE; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENATATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Katrina Wilson is recommending the formulation of a
Ad Hoc Steering Committee, and
WHEREAS, individuals will provide oversight, direction and support in the
documentation and recording of primary and secondary sources of historical significance,
and
WHEREAS, timelines, obstacles, achievements, geography, and milestones will
come to comprise the history of and subsequent incorporation of the largest African-
American city in Florida which became known as the City of Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Wilson is proposing the creation of a temporary 20th
Anniversary Citizen Ad Hoc committee, with each Council Member and the Mayor
appointing one (1) member and one (1) alternate member, for a total of seven (7)
members and seven (7) alternate members, and
WHEREAS, the alternate members may act in the place and stead of any absent
member or members at any meeting of the committee, and
WHEREAS, the primary responsibility of this temporary 20th Anniversary Citizen
Ad Hoc committee would be to provide advisory recommendation, oversight, direction,
and support in the documentation and recording of the City’s history to create a
Commemorative City of Miami Gardens 20th Anniversary Book approved by the Mayor
and City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the creation of a temporary 20th Anniversary Citizen Ad Hoc
Committee, with each Council Member and the Mayor appointing one (1) member and

one (1) alternate member, for a total of seven (7) members and seven (7) alternate
members.
Section 3: SUNSET DATE: The Committee will terminate upon final
recommendations made to the City Council or May 13, 2023 (whichever comes first).
Section 4: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 26, 2022.
