HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-031-3744_-_Launch_of_Springtime_Citizens_Academy_(April_2022)_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2022-031-3744 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA TO LAUNCH THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS SPRINGTIME CITIZENS ACADEMY; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Mayor Rodney Harris is proposing the launch of the springtime Miami Gardens Citizens Academy (“Citizens Academy”) session beginning the second week of April 2022, in an ongoing effort to familiarize City residents with the function and purpose of City government, thereby making the City more accessible and transparent, and WHEREAS, it has been proven that an educated citizenry is empowered and motivated to work toward positive change in the community, and WHEREAS, in the springtime Citizens Academy, residents will learn about the budgeting process, the role of the Mayor and City Council, Charter Officers and City staff, will obtain an overall of the City’s history and achievements, and will learn about the City’s form of government, among other things, and WHEREAS, in addition, participants in the Citizens Academy will gain a better understanding of how each City department supports the City’s overall mission and how City functions relate to the State and Federal government, and WHEREAS, in order to participate in the Citizens Academy one must be a resident of the City, be 18 years of age or older, and be able to commit to attending 10 weekly sessions, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the Citizens Academy will require a class coordinator which will be a management level employee, to oversee the Academy, and an administrative assistant to help with organization, communication ad clerical tasks, and WHEREAS, Directors and/or their Assistant Department Directors will be asked to make presentations on behalf of their department, and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the personnel cost for services provided by City staff will be absorbed by each participating department and the estimated cost for each 10 week course will not exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00), which will include supplies, operational expenses and a graduation, and WHEREAS, the funding for this event is to be paid from the Mayor’s Public Affairs Special Events account line item, DocuSign Envelope ID: CEDE264A-5BED-4685-965D-ADB5396643AF Page 2 of 2 Resolution 2022-031-3744 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby reestablishes the City of Miami Gardens Citizens Academy. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
