A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING APRIL AS FAIR
HOUSING MONTH, PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien recognizes the need for safeguards to
ensure fair and equitable practices for housing options throughout the City of Miami
Gardens in order to preserve the housing rights of our city’s citizens which is vital to the
growth of this City, and
WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Act, enacted on April 11, 1968, enshrined into
federal law the goal of eliminating racial segregation and ending housing discrimination
in the United States, and
WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on
race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, and disability, and commits
recipients of federal funding to affirmatively further fair housing in their communities, and
WHEREAS, More than fifty years after the passage of the Fair Housing Act,
discrimination persists, and many communities remain segregated, and
WHEREAS, Purposeful action and responsiveness from public and private
entities, alike, can help aide in the eradication of discriminatory practices that impact
people from various backgrounds, especially people of color, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien recommends the City Council recognize
the Month of April 2022 as Fair Housing Month in the City of Miami Gardens,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby recognizes the month of April, as Fair Housing Month in the City of Miami
Gardens.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 13, 2022.
