A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RECONIZING MAY AS MILITARY
APPRECIATION MONTH. PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien recognizes the importance of the United
State of America’s military community and the sacrifices that have been made to preserve
our way of life, and
WHEREAS, The U.S. Congress in 1999 officially designated May as National
Military Appreciation Month were Americans are encouraged to show their appreciation
to past and present service members in different ways, and
WHEREAS, during National Military Appreciation Month Americans are asked to
reflect on the important role that the U.S. Armed Forces play in the history and
development of our country, and
WHEREAS, May was designated as Military Appreciation Month in 1999 due to
the military-related holidays that are celebrated throughout the month, including Loyalty
Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, and
WHEREAS, Military Appreciation Month was created by a group of organizers who
were concerned that holidays dealing with military milestones were becoming increasingly
viewed by many as just another opportunity for a three-day weekend, and
WHEREASE, Councilwoman Linda Julien recommends the City Council recognize
the Month of May as Military Appreciation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: EXPRESSION OF RECOGNITION: The City Council of the City of
Miami Gardens hereby recognizes May as Military Appreciation Month.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 11, 2022.
