A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS,FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILMAN STEPHENS’ PUBLIC AFFAIRS ACCOUNT IN AN
AMOUNT DOLLARSTHOUSANDONETO NOT EXCEED
($1,000.00) IN SUPPORT OF THE BETA BETA LAMBDA
CHAPTER OF ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY,
INCORPORATED EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP;
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded on the
campus of Cornell University located in Ithaca, NY, as the first intercollegiate Greek-letter
fraternity for African-American men, and
WHEREAS, for over 84 years the Beta Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Incorporated has developed leaders, promoted academic excellence, and
provided service and advocacy to our local community, and
WHEREAS, their “Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College” program was established
nationally in 1922 and concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and
collegiate education as a road to advancement and sustainability within our culture and
community, and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 30th during their “Go-to-High-School, Go-To-
College” event which included a celebration of graduating high school seniors committed
to continue their academic pursuits at Florida Memorial University, the only Historically
Black College and University located in South Florida, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens, III is requesting funding from the Seat
6 Public Affairs account in the amount of $1,000 to support the Beta Beta Lambda Chapter
of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Education Foundation award academic
scholarships to high school seniors pursuing higher education,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) to the Beta Beta
Lambda Education Foundation Scholarship from the Seat 6 Public Affairs account.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
