HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-068-3781_-_Pride_Month_-_Adopted_-_PdfRESOLUTION NO. 2022-068-3781 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS,FLORIDA, RECONIZING JUNE AS LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in the City of Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, the month of June is national LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. In honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan - considered the tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States - each June Americans come together to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and WHEREAS, inactivists rights gay riots,four thetoprior years Stonewall Philadelphia had staged an “Annual Reminder” protest outside Independence Hall on July 4, and WHEREAS, although “gay power” had been proposed as the slogan for the movement, it was argued that the movement had yet to be politically empowered but that its members felt great pride in their sexual identity, and WHEREAS, events are held all across the country and nonprofits use the month to raise awareness about the current state of LGBTQIA human rights and how their respective organizations are working to protect and advocate for those rights. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby recognizes June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
