A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE JAMAICAN
PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAY AMATEUR SOCCER
TOURNAMENT AT MYRTLE GROVE PARK SUNDAY, JULY
31ST, AUTHORIZING 2022, IN-THESUPPORT FOR KIND
EVENT IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO THOUSAND
TWO HUNDERED AND TWENTY TWO DOLLARS ($2,222,00),
FROM THE GENERAL FUND ACCOUNT FOR POLICE
DEPARTMENT AND WAIVING ALL FEES ASSOCIATED WITH
THE USE OF THE CITY’S SHOWMOBILE; ALSO ALLOCATING
FUNDS FROM COUNCILWOMAN WILSON’S SPECIAL EVENTS
ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS
($5,000.00), PROVIDING FOR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY
MANAGER; OF ADOPTION PROVIDING FOR THE
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Soccer is the world’s most popular sport and is played by over 250
million people in more than 200 countries. It is particularly popular in Europe, Africa,
Central and South America. Its influence and popularity is increasingly growing in North
America and Asia, and
WHEREAS, For decades, each Sunday at Myrtle Grove Park, residents, their
families and a host of diverse soccer enthusiasts join together for a day of fitness,
comradery and fellowship all centered around a love for the game of soccer and liberty,
and
WHEREAS, As such, it is proposed that the City Council approve the hosting of
the 1st Jamaican Pre-Independence Amateur Soccer Tournament on Sunday, July 31
2022 at Myrtle Grove Park, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Wilson believes that this soccer tournament is
beneficial for our Miami Garden’s community and its residents because it helps to foster
strong cross cultural connections among members of our diverse community, while
simultaneously promoting healthy recreational exercise along with healthy and positive
relationships, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing paragraphs are
hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific
part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the Jamaican pre-independence day amateur soccer tournament at
Resolution No. 2022-088-3801

Myrtle Grove Park on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 and authorizes in-kind support for the event
in the amount not to exceed Two Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty Two Dollars
($2,222,00), from the General Fund account for the Police Department. The City Council
further authorizes waiving all fees associated with the use of the city’s show mobile.
Further, the City Council hereby allocates funds from Councilwoman Wilson’s special
events account in the amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00).
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 13, 2022.
