HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-103-3814_-_Smart_City_Development_Plan_-_Adopted_-_PdfRESOLUTION NO. 2022-103-3814 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR TRANSITING THE CITY TO A “SMART CITY”; PROVIDING A REPORTING REQUIREMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, throughout the world, people are increasingly migrating to cities, creating unprecedented demands on energy and infrastructure, and WHEREAS across the City of Miami and the City of Coral Gables, smart city solutions are proving to elevate South Florida's status in becoming a tech capital, and WHEREAS the City of Miami has seen a number of tech firms relocate their headquarters to the city due to the desire of the city to be tech friendly and tech aware, and WHEREAS numerous cities have announced a myriad of smart city investments, transforming neighborhoods into high tech municipalities. WHEREAS, creating an equitable digital environment is extremely important to cultivating communities that are prepared for the digital growth of the future, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien desires that the City of Miami Gardens develop a plan for transiting towards becoming a “Smart City”, and WHEREAS, andinformationusesthatmunicipality City” is “Smart a a communication technologies (ICT) to increase operational efficiency, share information with the public and improve both the quality of government services and citizen welfare. “Smart Citys” usually have the following elements: Connectivity, Data and Government involvement, and WHEREAS, upon becoming a “Smart City”, the City will be able to connect, protect, and enhance the lives of residents, visitors, and small businesses throughout the City, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien recommends that the City Council direct the City Manager to develop a plan for transiting the City to a “Smart City” and further, recommends the City Council to require the City Manager to provide quarterly reports on the status of this request, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Resolution No. 2022-103-3814 DocuSign Envelope ID: 20BAB466-92F8-44D1-B239-93C1DBDEEAE7 Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby directs City Manager to develop a plan for transiting the City of Miami Gardens to a “Smart City”. Section 3: REPORTING REQUIREMENT: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby directs the City Manager to provide a quarterly report on the status of this “Smart City” development plan.
