A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING
OF CAROL CITY PARK TO “WALT FRAZIER PARK”;
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, for more than 26 years of his of 39 years with Miami Dade County
Public Schools the iconic Walt Frazier served at Miami Carol City Senior High School,
and
WHEREAS, Coach Frazier was a stellar football coach and also a stellar football
player, and
WHEREAS, Walt Frazier played collegiate football at Bethune-Cookman College
as was a four-year starter All-American, inducted into the Hall of Fame by the High School
Athletic Association, as well as, inducted into the Bethune Cookman College now
University, Hall of Fame as one of the best players in the history of Bethune-Cookman
University, and
WHEREAS, Coach Frazier is known for producing star athletes such as Santana
Moss, Kenny Phillips, Williams Roberts (known as Rick Ross), and Selvin Brown, just to
name a few, and
WHEREAS, Coach Frazier changed the lives of students, brought joy and pride to
the community at-large which resulted in lifelong friendships and memories that will
forever be cherished, and
WHEREAS, it is recommended that the City Council authorize the approval of the
request to rename Carol City Park to “WALT FRAZIER PARK”,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the renaming of Carol City park to “WALT FRAZIER PARK”.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
