A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS,FLORIDA, SUPPORTING FLORIDA
MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY HOMECOMING FAN EXPERIENCE;
AUTHORIZING THE USE OF THE SHOWMOBILE IN-KIND ON
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2022; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Florida Memorial University is a private coeducational institution
located in the City of Miami Gardens with the distinction of being one of the oldest
academic centers in the state, and the only Historically Black University in South Florida,
and
Now a worldWHEREAS, -offersFMU institution, accreditedclass and fully
undergraduate and graduate programs in high demand fields that prepare students for
successful careers in the global marketplace. FMU is a culturally diverse institution,
transforming lives and helping to create a future for people from many races, ethnicities,
countries, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds, and
WHEREAS, One of the most memorable moments on the campus of South
Florida’s only HBCU is its annual homecoming event. This year’s theme is “Unleash the
Lion” and Florida Memorial University’s goal is to increase Lion Pride by providing lots of
entertainment and fun for students and its alumni, and
WHEREAS, As such, it is proposed that the City Council approve Florida Memorial
University Homecoming Fan Experience on Friday, November 4, 2022 and waive all fees
associated with the usage of the City of Miami Gardens’ showmobile. Councilwoman
Wilson believes that this homecoming celebration will bring students, staff, faculty, and
alumni together for a traditional week of festivities, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing paragraphs are
hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific
part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the use of the show mobile in-kind in support of Florida Memorial
University Homecoming Fan Experience to be held on Friday, November 4, 2022.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
