A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS,FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILMAN STEPHENS’ SPECIAL EVENTS/PUBLIC
AFFAIRS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO
THOUSAND THEOF SUPPORT ($2,000) DOLLARS IN
NATIONAL AUTHOR’S DAY READ-IN &BOOK FAIR;
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in 1928, Nellie Verne Burt McPherson, president of the Bement Illinois
Women’s Club, had an idea of setting aside a day to celebrate American authors, and
WHEREAS, in May of 1929, the club endorsed a resolution for National Author’s
Day to be observed honoring American writers, and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Commerce recognized this day in
1949 with the idea to recognize and celebrate all of the people who have contributed to
American literature, and
WHEREAS, on November 1st, millions of people celebrate authors and the books
they write on National Author’s Day, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens is requesting the allocation of Two Thousand
Dollars ($2,000.00) from the Seat 6 Special Events/Public Affairs account to support his
annual National Author’s Day Read-In & Book Fair to be held on November 1, 2022 at
the Senior Family Center,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) from the Seat 6
Special Events/Public Affairs Account to support Councilman Stephens’ National Author’s
Day Read-In & Book Fair to be held on November 1, 2022 at the Senior Family Center.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 26, 2022.
