A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS,FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
AFFAIRSPUBLIC LINDA COUNCILWOMAN JULIEN'S
ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED
AND SIXTY DOLLARS ($260.00) TO THE SUSAN G. KOMEN
BREAST CANCER FOUNDATI THEON; PROVIDING FOR
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien, in an effort to support the important work of the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, would like to offer a charitable donation,
and
WHEREAS, Komen focuses on patient navigation and advocacy, providing
resources for breast cancer patients to understand the American medical system, and
WHEREAS, Miami Gardens has a high population of black people, which studies
have shown are disproportionately impacted by cancer, and
WHEREAS, According to the American Cancer Society, black people are more
likely to die from most cancers and to live the shortest amount of time after a cancer
diagnosis than any other racial/ethnic group, and
WHEREAS, This donation will assist the foundation in fulfilling its commitment of
service and research toward finding a cure for breast cancer, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting an allocation of two hundred and
sixty dollars ($260.00) from the Seat 5’s Public Affairs account to the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby supports the allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs
Account in the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars ($260.00) to the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
