WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States and celebrates their heritage and culture, and WHEREAS, to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month Councilwoman Linda Julien is sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest which provides a one-time award to three eligible City of Miami Gardens students. Middle and high school students are eligible to apply. The award amounts will be four hundred dollars ($400) for the first place winner, three hundred dollars ($300) for the second place winner, and two hundred dollars ($200) for the third place winner, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting an allocation of nine hundred dollars ($900) from the Seat 5 Public Affairs account for the Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby supports allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs Account in the amount of nine hundred dollars ($900) for the Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
