A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF
OCTOBER AS NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT
AWARENESS MONTH AND RENEWING ITS COMMITMENT TO
INCLUSION FOR ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE
WORKFORCE IAND FORPROVIDING SOCIETY; N
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY CLERK; PROVIDING FOR THE
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, disabilities affect approximately 1 in 4 adults in the United States, or
approximately 61 million people according to a report issued in August of 2018 by the
Centers for Disease and Control Prevention, and
WHEREAS, people with disabilities are an important, vital part of our community
as valued workers, civic leaders, business owners, veterans, family members, and
friends, and they are innovative and valued contributors in the workplace, the classroom,
and the community, and
WHEREAS, October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which
heightens awareness while recognizing the contributions of Americans with disabilities to
both our workforce and our society, and
WHEREAS, National Disability Employment Awareness Month dates back to
1945, when Congress declared the first week in October "National Employ the Physically
Handicapped Week", and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens, III is requesting the City proclaim that
October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the City of Miami
Gardens and renews its commitment to inclusion for all individuals with disabilities in the
workforce and in society,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: RECOGNITION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby recognizes October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the
City of Miami Gardens.

Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 14, 2022.
