A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, URGING STATE AND LAWFUL
TAXING AUTHORIES TO PROVIDE THE PROPERTY OWNERS
OF NEW WORLD CONDOMINUMS RELIEF FROM PROPERTY
TAX OBLIGATIONS, PROVIDING FOR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE
CITY CLERK; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, around 200 people were displaced
after a massive fire engulfed New World Condominiums located at 395 NW 177th Street,
and
WHEREAS, according to reports, the second floor of half of the building collapsed
ultimately damaging 75 condominiums which resulted in the displacement over 200
people, and
WHEREAS, as a result of the fire a substantial portion of the building has been
rendered uninhabitable, and
WHEREAS, State law requires property appraisers to appraise real property and
local governments and millage-levying authorities to assess property taxes based on
those appraisals, and
WHEREAS, Residents effected by the fire that owned units within the building have
suffered substantial losses, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien is recommending the Mayor and City
Council approve the attached Resolution urging the Governor, State, and Local Taxing
Authorities to provide the effected property owners of New World Condominiums relief
from property tax obligations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby urges Governor Ron DeSantis along with State and Lawful Taxing Authorities to
provide the effected property owners of New World Condominiums relief from property
tax obligations.

Section 3: INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CITY CLERK: The City Clerk is hereby
directed to distribute this Resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Shevrin D.
Jones, State Representatives Felicia Robinson, State Representatives Christopher
Benjamin, Florida Senate Leadership, and Florida House of Representative Leadership.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 25, 2023.
