A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, NAMING THE ARCH STRUCTURE
LOCATED AT NW 167TH ST. AND NW 13TH AVE. AS “THE
MAYOR OLIVER G. GILBERT III ARCH”; PROVIDING FOR
ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert III is a native son to
Miami Gardens and has served the city as a commissioner and mayor, and
WHEREAS, the Chairman became the second mayor to serve the city, having
taken office in 2012, and
WHEREAS, he is widely recognized as a life-long champion of the growth and
development that has built Miami Gardens into a world-class city and entertainment
destination, and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, he provided leadership to City Council and city
employees, increased corporate expansion and was the driving force behind the
exponential growth and development of new businesses within Miami Gardens, and
WHEREAS, Under his leadership, in 2020 the City of Miami Gardens was
awarded All-American City status, and
WHEREAS, Chairman Gilbert’s civic activities have extended outside of Miami-
Dade County as he is a former President of the African-American Mayors Association
and held a seat on the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Mayors, National
League of Cities, U.S. Conference of Mayors Advisory Board, as well as President of the
Miami-Dade County League of Cities, and
WHEREAS, Chairman Gilbert is a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc. and is dedicated to their cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance
and uplift, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda Julien would like to honor Chairman Oliver G.
Gilbert III for his service and achievements in promoting progress in the City of Miami
Gardens, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: NAMING: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens, Florida hereby
approves the naming of the arch structure located at NW 167TH St. and NW 13TH Ave.
as “The Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert III Arch”.
Section 3: DIRECTION TO THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS: The Director
of Public Works is hereby authorized to take any and all steps necessary to effectuate the
naming of the arch as provided for herein.
Section 4: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 26, 2023.
