A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, REQUIRING EACH CHILD TO
RECEIVE AN ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (EKG) EXAMINATION
AS PART OF THEIR PHYSICAL EXAMINATION PRIOR TO
PARTICIPATING IN A CITY PERMITTED OR SPONSORED
SPORTS ACTIVITY; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation Department ensures
a variety of services for the betterment of residents and, further, ensures that residents
will receive the highest possible standard of service from the City, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation Department’s vision
is to provide safe, inclusive, and environmentally friendly parks, and
WHEREAS, currently, the City does not require children seeking to participate in
youth sports activities to acquire electrocardiogram (EKG) screening prior to participating
in city-permitted youth sports activities, and
WHEREAS, adding this additional medical requirement will, further, serve the
City’s purpose of continuing to create a safe environment for youth athletic activities, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens, III, recommends that the City Council
require each child to receive an electrocardiogram (EKG) examination as part of their
physical examination prior to participating in a city permitted or sponsored sports activity,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby requires each child at the age of five and older to receive an electrocardiogram
(EKG) examination as part of their physical examination prior to participating in a city
permitted or sponsored sports activity.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 12, 2023.
