Staff Summary: Councilwoman Sharon Pritchett who represented At‐Large Seat 5 in the City of Miami Gardens, resigned her position on the City Council effective March 1, 2011. Because of Ms. Pritchett’s resignation, a vacancy has occurred on the City Council. In accordance with Section 2.5(c)(2) of the City Charter, the Mayor is required to nominate an individual to fill the unexpired term of Councilwoman Pritchett, within 30 days. If more than six (6) months remain on the unexpired term, the City Council has to confirm the Mayor’s appointment. Mayor Gibson will submit her nominee to the City Council to fill the remaining term left by Councilwoman Sharon Pritchett. The Appointee will serve until the next regularly scheduled Miami‐Dade countywide election, at which time an election is to be held to fill the vacancy for the balance of the term.
