A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS
ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED NINE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($900), FOR THE HAITIAN HERITAGE MONTH
ESSAY CONTEST; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, several states throughout the country commemorate Haitian Heritage
Month, which recognizes the valuable contributions made by Haitians to world history,
and
WHEREAS, Haitian Heritage Month is a celebration of Haitian culture and an
opportunity to share that with the community, and
WHEREAS, to commemorate Haitian Heritage Month Councilwoman Linda Julien
is sponsoring a Haitian Heritage Month Essay Contest which provides a one-time award
to three eligible students that resident in City of Miami Gardens, in the amounts of four
hundred dollars ($400) for the first place winner, three hundred dollars ($300) for the
second place winner, and two hundred dollars ($200) for the third place winner for a
qualifying essay on the certain topic, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting an allocation of nine hundred
dollars ($900) from the Seat 5 Public Affairs account for the Haitian Heritage Month Essay
Contest, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby support allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs Account in
the amount of nine hundred dollars ($900) for the Haitian Heritage Month Essay Contest.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 10, 2023.
