HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-068-1958_-_7th_annual_HBCU_Picnic_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2023-068-1958 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE BLACK COLLEGE EXPERIENCE, INC’S 7TH ANNUAL SOUTH FLORIDA HBCU PICNIC; AUTHORIZING AN IN-KIND SUPPORT, WAIVING THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF THE SHOW- MOBILE AND MIAMI GARDENS POLICE DEPARTMENTFOR SATURDAY, JULY 8, 2023 IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FOUR THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY EIGHT DOLLARS ($4968), ; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The South Florida HBCU picnic is a family-oriented community event geared at educating students about the options of attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) as well as connecting HBCU alumni, Black alumni of other institutes , current students and friends, and WHEREAS, the picnic has attracted alumni from 36 HBCUs and with an attendance of over 2,000 people and is the largest gathering of Black Professionals in South Florida, and WHEREAS, Councilman Reggie Leon would like to sponsor the use of the show- mobile and service of the MGPD in support of the Black College Experience, Inc. 7th annual South Florida HBCU Picnic, and is requesting that the City of Miami Gardens waive the fees associated with the utilization and and services associated with the use of the show-mobile and of the Miami Gardens Police department NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby[LW1] allocates funds from Seat 2 Public Affairs Special Events Account for One Thousand Five Hundred dollars ($1500), to support Miami Norland Senior High School Vikings in Harmony Mixed Chorale and Women’s Choir attend and participate in the state choral music performance assessment. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
