A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING
OF NW 12TH AVENUE NORTH FROM 191ST STREET TO
199TH STREET AS “VIKINGS AVENUE”; AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO CHANGE THE STREET SIGNAGE;
PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens, III, wishes to rename NW 12th Avenue
from 191st Street to 199th Street to “Vikings Avenue” in recognition of Miami Norland
Senior High School, and
WHEREAS, that portion of NW 12th Avenue is a City Street, and
WHEREAS, Section 34-233 of the City of Miami Gardens Code of Ordinance
outlines the process for renaming and codesignating streets, and
WHEREAS, Section 44-233 (b)(10) provides the Mayor and members of the City
Council may sponsor a Resolution for the renaming or codesignation of a street, and
WHEREAS, Miami Norland Senior High School opened its doors to students in
1958, and
WHEREAS, Miami Norland Senior High School mission is to provide a quality
experience that will educate students to fulfill their roles as responsible, productive
citizens who respect individuality, cultural differences, and realize their potential as life-
long learners, and
WHEREAS, under the current leadership of Principal Ms. Rhonda Gaines-Miller,
Norland High School now offers Academies (Magnet Programs) in Biotechnology and
Forensics, Hospitality and Tourism, Informational Technology, Visual & Performing Arts,
and Sports Medicine, and
WHEREAS, Norland High School provides a rigorous and challenging curriculum
through the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), which is
a four-year course of study that has proven results in preparing graduates to enter the
nation's leading universities, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Stephens is recommending the City Council approve the
attached Resolution renaming NW 12th Avenue from 191st Street to 199th Street as
‘Vikings Avenue’ and directing the City Manager to take all steps necessary to change
the street signage on NW 12th Avenue for this purpose, and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the renaming of NW 12th Avenue from 191st Street to 199th Street as
‘Vikings Avenue”. The City Council further authorizes the City Manager to change the
street signage.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 24, 2023.
