Required: (Enter X in box) Yes No RFP/RFQ/Bid #: X N/A Sponsor Name Mayor Shirley Gibson Department: Office of City Council Short Title: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY AND THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO FORM A NONPROFIT ENTITY; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Staff Summary: The City Council previously enacted Ordinances authorizing the formation of various committees including, the Elderly Affairs Advisory Committee, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the Progressive Young Adults Committee, and the Junior Council. Many of the aforementioned committees have expressed an interest in recommending that the City Council apply for grants to support City projects. City staff is also aware of funding opportunities that the City is not able to take advantage of because the City is not a nonprofit entity. The City Council would like to form a nonprofit corporation in order to apply for and obtain grants to assist the City and its residents with programming needs. Proposed Action: That the City Council authorize the formation of a City of Miami Gardens 501 (c)(3) entity.
