A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO ESTABLISH A MIAMI GARDENS SMOKE-FREE CAMPAIGN
THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS; PROVIDING
FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens fosters and maintains a community culture
of health and well-being for all residents of the City, and
WHEREAS, protecting City residents and youth from the affects of second-hand
smoke is paramount to the preserving the health and safety of Miami Gardens residents,
and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien desires to create a Smoke-Free Campaign
(“Campaign”) to further achieve the goal of preserving the health and safety of the City
residents, and
WHEREAS, this Campaign will utilize city resources for marketing and
advertisement of the Campaign’s purpose and will create smoke-free zones through the
City, and
WHEREAS, funding for the Campaign shall come from in-kind contributions and
general funds of the Public Affairs Department, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien recommends that the City Council direct the
City Manager to establish a Miami Gardens Smoke-Free Campaign throughout the City
of Miami Gardens,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby directs the City Manager to establish a Miami Gardens Smoke-Free Campaign
throughout the City of Miami Gardens.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
