A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIAL
EVENTS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SEVEN
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($700.00), NUNC PRO TUNC, FOR THE
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH ESSAY CONTEST AWARDEES;
PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions made and the
important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States and celebrates
their heritage and culture, and
WHEREAS, in an effort to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Councilwoman
Linda Julien sponsored a Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest which provided a one-
time award to two eligible City of Miami Gardens students, and
WHEREAS, middle and high school students were eligible to apply. The award
amounts are four hundred dollars ($400) for the first-place winner, three hundred dollars
($300) for the second-place winner, and two-hundred dollars for the third-pace winner,
and
WHEREAS, two winners were recognized as first and second place winners of the
essay contest: one middle school student and one high school student, and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting that the funds for the awardees in
the amount not to exceed seven hundred dollars ($700) are allocated from her Public
Affairs Special Events account, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby[LW1] supports allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs
Special Events Account in the amount not to exceed seven hundred dollars ($700), nuc
pro tunc, for the Hispanic Heritage essay awardees.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
