HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-031-2104_-_Black_History_Essay_Contest_-_Adopted.docxRESOLUTION NO. 2024-031-2104 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM COUNCILWOMAN LINDA JULIEN'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($900.00), FOR THE SECOND ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY ESSAY CONTEST; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien's second annual Black History essay contest, themed "African Americans and The Arts", aims to encourage student applicants in fostering awareness and appreciation for the contributions of African Americans in the Arts, and WHEREAS, the contest aims to inspire students to explore the rich history of African American artistic expression and its impact on society, whether local or global, and WHEREAS, through their essays, participants will highlight the invaluable contributions of African American artists, past and present, in challenging social norms, advocating for justice, and enriching cultural heritage, and WHEREAS, the essay contest is open to all Miami Gardens students; there are three prizes: first place award of four hundred dollars ($400), second place award of three hundred dollars ($300), and third place award of ($200), and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Julien is requesting to allocate funds from her Public Affairs Special Events account in the amount not to exceed nine-hundred dollars ($900) in support of her annual Black History essay contest, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby supports allocation of funds from Councilwoman Julien’s Public Affairs Special Events Account in the amount not to exceed nine hundred dollars ($900) in support of the Second Annual Black History Essay Contest. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
