A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO RENEW THE PARTNERSHIP MEMORANDUM
OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
STATE ATTORNEY’S OFFICE TO EMPLOY AN ASSISTANT
STATE ATTORNEY AND OTHER STAFF TO WORK WITH THE
CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS ON GUN VIOLENCE AND OTHER
SERIOUS CRIMES; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2019, the City Council adopted Resolution Number
2019-180-3309, which authorized the City Manger to negotiate and execute a partnership
with Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office (SAO), and
WHEREAS, the City’s Police Department dedicates resources to crime prevention,
and is recommending that the City Council renew its partnership with the SAO, and
WHEREAS, the SAO has proposed amendments to the original Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) adding a Special Victim Advocate, with related fringe benefits, as
well as, increases to cover the increased costs of the Assistant State Attorney and
Investigator, and
WHEREAS, the City reviewed the proposed changes and has identified
operational savings to address a portion of the cost increase within the current FY2024
Budget with the intent to revisit at the mid-year review for additional funding, if available,
and propose fully funding in the upcoming FY2025 Budget allocation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the City Manager to renew the partnership memorandum of
understanding with the Miami Dade County State Attorney’s Office to employ an Assistant
State Attorney and other staff to work with the City of Miami Gardens on gun violence and
other serious crimes.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.
