A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
COUNCILMAN STEPHENS’ SPECIAL EVENTS/ PUBLIC
AFFAIRS ACCOUNT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($2,000) IN SUPPORT OF THE SIGMA
ALPHA CHAPTER OF OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY,
INCORPORATED’S 85TH ANNIVERSARY AND “DON’T TAKE
MY LIFE, LET ME LIVE MOVEMENT” COMMUNITY
INITIATIVES; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on March 13, 1939, fourteen Miami professionals and community
leaders, with like-minded ideals and attainments, similar to those of the fraternity’s
founders, chartered the Sigma Alpha chapter with the mission to uplift their communities
and to coordinate social action and community enrichment activities serving Miami-Dade
County, and
WHEREAS, the Sigma Alpha chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated,
celebrated their 85th Chapter Anniversary from March 11- March 17, 2024, which would
include their internationally mandated Annual Talent Hunt program and anniversary
banquet to facilitate the provision of scholarships for high school students to attend
college, and
WHEREAS, "Don't Take My Life, Let Me Live Movement” was established in 2016,
this organization has tirelessly traveled across the globe, offering solace and support to
communities grappling with the unjust loss of their loved ones, in an effort to curb violence,
and
WHEREAS, supporting the "Don't Take My Life, Let Me Live Movement” is
valuable as they strive to make a significant impact in the lives of those affected by
violence and injustice, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens is requesting funds from his Special
Events/ Public Affairs account in the amount of $2,000 to support the Sigma Alpha
Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated’s 85TH Anniversary Celebration and
“Don't Take My Life, Let Me Live Movement” community initiatives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.

Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the allocation in the amount not to exceed Two Thousand Dollars
($2,000.00) from the Seat 6 Special Events/Public Affairs Account to support the Sigma
Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated’s 85TH Anniversary Celebration
and “Don't Take My Life, Let Me Live Movement” community initiatives.
