The twenty-two (22) member Taskforce, which was comprised of school district superintendents, principals, teac hers, parents, and representatives from various for profit and non-profit organizations convened on March 22, 201 2. The Taskforce developed dozens of recommendations related to accountability for Students with Disabilities, English Language Learners and Students with Disabil ities at Exception Student Education centers. However, Education Commissioner Gerard R obinson presented to the State Board of Education, for approval, only five (5) of the Taskforce’s recommendations. Specifically, the Taskforce’s recommendations r egarding accountability action plans for special populations were not adopted. Requests for consideration of t he Taskforce’s recommendations have come from members of the United States Congress, other municipalities, the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners and various community based organiz ations. Councilman David Williams Jr. recommends that the City Council adopt a Resolution urging Go vernor Rick Scott and the State Board of Education to adopt and implement the recommendati ons of the Commissioner’s Taskforce on Inclusion and Acc ountability related to Englis h Language Learner s and Students with Disabilities.  Proposed  Action:  Councilman David Williams Jr. recommends that the City Council adopts the attached Resolution.  Attachment:  1- Overview of the Commissioner’s Ta skforce on Inclusion and Accountability Recommendations
