Required: (Enter X in box) Yes No RFP/RFQ/Bid #: N/A X Strategic Plan Related (Enter X in box) Yes No Strategic Plan Priority Area: Enhance Organizational Bus. & Economic Dev Public Safety Quality of Education Qual. of Life & City Image Communcation Strategic Plan Obj./Strategy: (list the specific objective/strategy this item will address) N/A X Sponsor Name Councilman David Williams Jr. Department:Mayor and City Council   Short Title:    A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 5, 2013 AS NIGERIA DAY IN THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.   Staff Summary:    On October 1, 1960, Nigeria gained its independence from the United Kingdom.  On October 1, 2011,  the Nigerian American Foundation (NAF) hosted the 1st Annual Nigerian Independence Day Parade in the  City of Miami Gardens.  NAF has demonstrated exemplary leadership in harnessing the talents and  support of Nigerians by organizing the Florida United for Nigeria (FUN), a committee of leading Nigerian  organizations in South Florida.      ITEM K-8) CONSENT AGENDA RESOLUTION Nigeria Day   1515 NW 167 Street, Building 5 Suite 200    Miami Gardens, Florida 33169    On October 4, 2014, NAF will celebrate the 54th Nigerian Independence Day by hosting the 4th Annual  Independence Day Parade in the City of Miami Gardens.  Councilman David Williams Jr. recommends  that the City acknowledge Saturday, October 4, 2014 as “Nigeria Day” to commemorate the country’s  independence and to recognize NAF’s contributions to the residents of Miami Gardens.       Proposed Action:    That the City Council approves the attached Resolution.      Attachment:    None.
