HomeMy WebLinkAbout01.13.2016 - City Council MinutesCITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 13, 12016 CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MINUTES JANUARY 13, 2016 (A) CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL The City Council for the City of Miami Gardens, Florida, met in regular session, Wednesday, January 13, 2016, beginning at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, 18605 NW 27th Avenue, Miami Gardens, Florida. The following members of the City Council were present: Mayor Oliver Gilbert, Vice Mayor Felicia Robinson and Council Members: Lisa C. Davis, Lillie Q. Odom, Rodney Harris, David Williams Jr., and Dr. Erhabor Ighodaro. Also in attendance were: City Manager Cameron Benson, City Attorney Sonja K. Dickens and City Clerk Ronetta Taylor. (B) INVOCATION Delivered by Mayor Gilbert (C) PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Recited in unison (D) APPROVAL OF MINUTES D-1) Regular City Council Minutes —December 9, 2015 Motion offered by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Harris to approve the minutes, with necessary corrections if any. There being no discussion, the motion to approve passed and carried by a unanimous voice vote of the Council. (E) ORDER OF BUSINESS (Items to be pulled from Consent Agenda at this time) Item F-1 was moved to the January 27, 2016 City Council Agenda Item K-2 was withdrawn from the Official Agenda Item K-10 was withdrawn from the Official Agenda Item M-1 was withdrawn from the Official Agenda Motion offered by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Harris to approve the Official Agenda, with the necessary changes/amendments/deletions. There being no discussion, the motion to approve the Official Agenda passed and carried by a unanimous vote of the Council. (F) SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS (5 minutes each) January 13, 2016, City Council Minutes Page 1 CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 13, 12016 F-2) Councilman Ighodaro — Special Presentation Councilman Ighodaro presented a plaque to Willie Ervin Miller on the occasion of his retirement. Mayor Gilbert elaborated on Miller's commitment to the Miami Gardens' community and its Residents. (G) PUBLIC COMMENTS Reverend Nettie B. Davis, 17530 NW 27th Court, Miami Gardens, Florida, appeared before the City Council to highlight the efforts being made with the HIV/AIDS Awareness Movement. She further thanked the City of Miami Gardens for its continued support. (H) ORDINANCE(S) FOR FIRST READING: H-1) AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE AMENDMENT OF THE CITY'S TAXABLE LAND ACQUISITION REVENUE BOND, SERIES 200911; APPROVING T H E EXECUTION OF A BOND MODIFICATION AGREEMENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Ferguson Recreation Complex in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Q) REPORTS OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS Councilman Williams shared that a Learn to Garden workshop will be held at Scott Lake Elementary School, Saturday January 16th and Monday, January 18th. The workshop starts at 8:OOAM and ends at 12PM. Councilwoman Davis announced that the Human Trafficking Steering Committee will co -host its first walk in recognition of Human Trafficking Month, January 29, 2016, beginning at 10:00 AM, at Florida National University Hialeah Campus, 4425 West Jose Regueiro (20th) Avenue, Hialeah, Florida. Councilman Harris invited everyone out to the Food Truck Invasion, Friday, January 15th from 5:30 — 9:OOPM, at Rolling Oaks Park. He further announced that he would be partnering with Mt. Hermon A.M.E. Church, Saturday January 23, 2016, for a Farm Share Event. The public is invited to attend. Vice Mayor Robinson shared a ceremony will be held at Carol City High School in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "W.I.S.H., Sunday, January 17, 2016, from 2:00- 5:OOPM. She further shared a Red Wine, Red Dress Awareness event highlighting Heart Disease is scheduled for February 6, 2016, at the City of Miami Gardens City Hall Court Yard, starting at 6:OOPM. Mayor Gilbert conveyed concern with the negative comments surrounding the City of Miami Gardens Chamber of Commerce.
