HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-141-3246 - Accepting Grant from FDEP for Headwall CulvertRESOLUTION NO. 2017-141-3246 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE ONE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLAR ($150,000.00) AWARD FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION FOR HEADWALL/CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE ACCEPTANCE OF THIS AWARD; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens has been awarded One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00) from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the 2017-2018 General Appropriations Act for Headwall/Culvert Replacement Project, and WHEREAS, the City applied for monies from this program to support design and construct headwall/culverts that have deteriorated, creating potholes along the sidewalks and roads, and WHEREAS, the headwall/culvert replacements will end the undermining of the residential area which traverses a waterway that leads into Scott Lake, and WHEREAS, Staff recommends that the City Council accept the One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollar ($150,000.00) award from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and allow the City Manager to execute any and all documents related to the acceptance of this award, NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Resolution No. 2017-141-3246 Section 2: ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT/AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby accepts the One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollar ($150,000.00) award from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection for Headwall/culvert Replacement project. The City Council further authorizes the City Manager to execute any and all documents related to the acceptance of this award. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage. Staff Summary: Background The City of Miami Gardens has been awarded funding from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The purpose of this grant is to support design and construction of headwall/culverts that have deteriorated causing the sidewalk and roads to be undermined and creating potholes along the sides. Funds were provided in the 2017-2018 General Appropriations Act under Line Item 1606A. AGENDA ITEM K-8 HEADWALL CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT 18605 N.W. 27th Avenue Miami Gardens, Florida 33056 Current Situation The City of Miami Gardens submitted grant proposals to the State of Florida Appropriations Subcommittee. Grant funds were provided to the City in the 2017-2018 General Appropriations Act under Line Item 1606A for Headwall/Culvert Replacement Project. The headwall/culvert replacements will end the undermining of the residential area which traverse a waterway that leads into Scott Lake. The undermining was due to the water flow that was creating potholes and sidewalk/road undermining. Fiscal Impact The appropriation of the project in the FY 2018 budget is as follows: Headwall/Culvert Replacement Project: Miami Gardens Stormwater $200,000 and DEP Grant $150,000 Proposed Action: That City Council allow the City Manager to accept award and submit required resolution; authorizing the City Manager to execute any and all agreements that are awarded to the City as a result of this grant process.
