HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-142-3247A - Declaration of Local Emergency - Hurricane IrmaRESOLUTION NO. 2017-142-3247 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE "DECLARATION OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY" IMPOSED BY THE MAYOR ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2017, DUE TO HURRICANE IRMA; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens faced dangerous conditions of sufficient severity and magnitude to warrant coordinated local government action to prevent or alleviate the damage, loss, hardship or suffering threatened or caused thereby, and WHEREAS, Governor Rick Scott declared a State of Emergency for all of Florida due to the threat of impending Hurricane Irma, and WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez declared a State of Emergency for South Florida due to the threat of impending Hurricane Irma, and WHEREAS, on September 5, 2017, Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert, III, declared a State of Emergency for the City of Miami Gardens due to the threat of Hurricane Irma, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: CONFIRMATION OF THE DECLARATION OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby ratifies the "Declaration of a Local Emergency" imposed by Mayor Oliver Gilbert, III, on September 5, 2017, attached hereto as Exhibit" A". Section 4: AUTHORIZATION OF CITY MANAGER: The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. Section 5: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage. On September 5, 2017, Mayor Oliver G. Gilbert III declared a State of Emergency for the City of Miami Gardens due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.
