HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-47 SUPPORTING EXPANSION OF METRORAIL SYSTEMRESOLUTION NO. 2003- 47 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF THE EXISTING METRORAIL SYSTEM, ALONG THE NORTH CORRIDOR (NORTHWEST 27™ AVENUE), FROM NW 79™ STREET TO 215^" STREET (MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD COUNTYLINE ROAD); PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the North Corridor Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) established to provide citizen input to the Miami-Dade County North Corridor Alternative Analysis Study; and WHEREAS, the North Corridor Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) unanimously recommended and supported the Revised 1999 Metrorail Alignment on September 12, 2003, the original alignment approved by the Metropolitan Plaiming Organization (MFC) in 1999; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens Council supports the development of all existing transit corridors, throughout Miami-Dade County to improve the mobility of its citizen and recommends that the North Corridor Metrorail Extension Project be given priority and implemented first when the revenue source is implemented; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens Council supports this project for moving forward with immediately and expediency by all transit authorities, including federal, state and local. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: Supports the Expansion. That the City of Miami Gardens Council supports the development of the extension of Metrorail north from 79'*' Street along 27'^ Avenue corridor to the Broward Cotmty line and that this corridor be designated a priority project by Miami-Dade County. Section 2: Aesthetically Structured. That the system is aesthetically structured to be consistent in appearance with the existing Metrorail system, supportive of ancillary transportation systems, environmentally sound and compatible with the geographic integrity and landscape of the North Dade Corridor. Section 3: Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption. REASONS: This resolution supports the expansion of the existing metrorail system along the north corridor (northwest 27'*' Avenue), from NW 79^ Street to 215'*' Street (Miami-Dade/Broward Countyline Road).
