HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-206-3311 - Intergenerational Chess ProgramRESOLUTION NO. 2017-206-3311 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO CREATE AN INTERGENERATIONAL CHESS PROGRAM FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING STUDENTS FROM LOCAL CHESS TEAMS TO TEACH CHESS TO ADULTS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Norwood Elementary in the City of Miami Gardens is one of the top performing schools in chess, and WHEREAS, the Norwood student participants have won over ninety national and state awards including two state championships, and WHEREAS, to expand the City intergenerational experiences Mayor Gilbert is requesting that an intergenerational Chess program be created with students from local chess teams to teach chess to adults, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby directs the City Manager to create an intergenerational chess program for the purpose of providing students from local chess teams to teach chess to adults. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
