FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE APPOINTMENT OF DOROTHY SMITH TO THE VETERANS AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in accordance with the creation of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, Vice Mayor Erhabor Ighodaro, appoints Dorothy Smith to the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, and WHEREAS, Ms. Dorothy Smith's term will commence upon appointment and shall expire August 2018, and WHEREAS, once appointed, Ms. Smith will adhere to the duties and powers of the Advisory Committee as outlined in the Ordinance, and WHEREAS, this Resolution acknowledges Vice Mayor Erhabor Ighodaro, appointment of Dorothy Smith to the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby acknowledges the appointment of Dorothy Smith to the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee for a term that shall expire August 2018. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage. Staff Summary: The City Council created the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, comprised of seven (7) members, with the Mayor and each Council Member making one appointment. The Committee Member appointed by the Mayor and Council Member shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor or City Council Member appointing such 18605 NW 27th Avenue Miami Gardens, Florida 33056 [Type here] Each applicant for appointment to the Committee shall, as a prerequisite to consideration, file an application on a form to be provided by the City Clerk, present a Voter's Registration Card, and State of Florida Driver's License or current State of Florida Identification Card. The Committee shall have the power to advise the City Council, and to submit written recommendations concerning the following: A. Policies and programs addressing the issues and needs of the veteran residents of the City. B. Health, safety, and welfare issues. C. Recreational issues affecting veterans. D. Delivery of services to veterans, including health, medical, and social. E. Any other matters that the City Council seeks guidance from the Committee on. In accordance with the creation of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, Vice Mayor Erhabor Ighodaro appoints Dorothy Smith. The term of office for all Committee members shall commence upon appointment and shall expire August 2018 Ms. Smith shall adhere to the duties and powers of the Advisory Committee as outlined in the pertinent Ordinance.
