A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM VICE
MAYOR RODNEY HARRIS' SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT IN
THE AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000), FOR
THE PURPOSE OF HOSTING THE 3RD ANNUAL ROBOTICS
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART
& MATHEMATICS (STEAM) IN THE GARDENS COMPETITION,-
PROVIDING
OMPETITION;PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, it is a well-known fact that when students learn through exploration,
it increases motivation and a desire to succeed, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Gardens and Vice Mayor Rodney Harris is thrilled
to present the 3rd Annual Robotics S.T.E.A.M in the Gardens competition on the
weekend of February 9 - 10, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., and
WHEREAS, this event will be hosted at the St. Thomas University campus in the
Fernandez Wellness Center in partnership with St. Thomas University's (STU) School of
Science, Technology and Health, and
WHEREAS, the study of robotics inherently relates to all facets of STEM, and
WHEREAS, the competition will feature STEM research project presentations, a
teamwork match, autonomous programming and driver skills matches, along with an art
component included this year as well, and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Rodney Harris is requesting to allocate Five Thousand
Dollars ($5,000.00) from his Special Events Account for the purpose of hosting the 3rd
Annual Robotics S.T.E.A.M in the Gardens competition,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby allocates funds from Vice Mayor Rodney Harris Special Events Account in the
amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), for the purpose of hosting the 4th Annual
Robotics S.T.E.A.M in the Gardens competition.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 23, 2019.
