A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO
IMPLEMENT A JUNIOR CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY FOR THE
CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION
OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the Miami Gardens City Council approved the implementation of the
Citizens Police Academy at the September 26, 2018, Council Meeting , and
WHEREAS, in an effort to increase youth citizen participation and engagement
with the City of Miami Gardens Police Department, the City is proposing the creation of
a Junior Citizens Police Academy (JCPA), and
WHEREAS, the mission of the JCPA is to familiarize youth citizens with the
function and purpose of the police department thereby making the police more
transparent and accessible, and
WHEREAS, the ultimate objective of the JCPA is to continue to cultivate a
positive relationship with our youth residents, which will in turn result in beneficial acts of
service throughout the community, and
WHEREAS, the academy is designed especially for kids from ages 13 to 18
years old and will inform them about different aspects of law enforcement including
community policing, criminal investigations, patrol duties, use of force, K-9 duties, SRT
demonstration, and less lethal weapons, and
WHEREAS, the academy will be offered at no cost and the youth will gain a
working knowledge of their police department,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes the City to implement a Junior Citizens Police Academy for the City of
Miami Gardens.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 10 2019.
