HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-226-3355 Seat 1 Support Elder Awareness/Wellness Symposium RESOLUTION NO. 2019-226-3355 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, ALLOCATING THE SUM OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) FROM COUNCILWOMAN ODOM'S SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT TO SUPPORT THE ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE AWARENESS & WELLNESS SYMPOSIUM; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom is seeking approval of the City Council to support the Fifth Annual Elder Financial Abuse Awareness & Wellness Symposium, and WHEREAS, the 2018 symposium will take place on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, its purpose is to encourage and educate residents, specifically senior residents and their caregivers on how to manage their financial and medical wellness to the greatest extent, and WHEREAS, identify theft and elder scamming tactics will be highlighted as well, and WHEREAS, the past symposiums included several government and private agencies, and WHEREAS, some of the recurring guest speakers were from Alliance for Aging, Inc., Planning and Population Health and Healthy Aging Unit, Center for Family and Child Enrichment Medical Outreach Team, Miami-Dade County State Attorney Office and the City of Miami Gardens Economic Crime Unit, and WHEREAS, the annual symposium is engaging and is well-received by the attendees and presenters, and WHEREAS, in support of the Fifth Annual Elder Financial Abuse Awareness & Wellness Symposium, Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom is requesting $1,000 from the Special Events Account, and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom recommends that the City Council approves this resolution, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1 : ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby authorizes the allocation of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) from Councilwoman Lillie Q. Odom's Special Events Account, to support the Fifth Annual Elder Financial Abuse Awareness & Wellness Symposium. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
