HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-073-3471 Street Tree Matching Grant Program RESOLUTION NO. 2020-073-3471 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AND ATTEST RESPECTIVELY, THAT CERTAIN AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI- DADE COUNTY FOR THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE 2020 STREET TREE MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF FOURTEEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SIXTY- NINE DOLLARS AND THIRTEEN CENTS ($14,569.13) TO SUPPORT THE CITY'S "COMMUTE-A-TREE PROJECT` A COPY OF WHICH IS ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING A MATCH OF FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF FOURTEEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED SIXTY-NINE DOLLARS AND THIRTEEN CENTS ($14,569.13); PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, over the years, the elements of natural ecological occurrences and weather events, along with progressive development and growth changes within the urban environment, the City of Miami Gardens and South Florida have experienced a substantial loss of tree canopy and the many benefits that a healthy urban forest provides, and WHEREAS, the intrinsic and economical value of proper urban forestry management, a healthy tree canopy and tree infrastructure is parallel to effecting and sustaining long-term quality of life, the well-being and overall aesthetic in the City of Miami Gardens and for its residents, and WHEREAS, since 2005, in an effort to address the impact, the City has promoted tree plantings throughout residential communities; planted along the right-of-way and public spaces and worked with the County on various city tree planting projects and initiatives such as; Million Trees Miami and NEAT Streets Miami, and WHEREAS, these programs help to improve quality of life, provide health benefits, increase property values, build public awareness and civic engagement, and WHEREAS, a Tree Canopy Study was also implemented to determine the City's existing tree canopy coverage, and WHEREAS, due to the City's expansion of tree canopy, Miami-Dade County has awarded the City a tree planting grant, and WHEREAS, Staff is requesting that Council accept the grant along with the City matching funds, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby authorizes the City Manager and the City Clerk to execute and attest respectively, that certain agreement with Miami-Dade County for the acceptance of the 2020 Street Tree Matching Grant Program in the amount of Fourteen Thousand Five Hundred Sixty-Nine Dollars and Thirteen Cents ($14,569.13) to support the City's "Commute-A-Tree Project", a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A", The City Council further authorizes a match of funds in the amount of Fourteen Thousand Five Hundred Sixty-Nine Dollars and Thirteen Cents ($14,569.13). Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
