A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE 2021 MIAMI
GARDENS FITNESS CHALLENGE; WAIVING STAFF COST
AND FEE USAGE FOR BETTY T. FERGUSON
RECREATIONAL CENTER FOR THE MONTHS OF JANUARY
TO MARCH 2021; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF
REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Mayor's Fitness Challenge offered participants the opportunity to
join free group exercise classes led by certified instructors such as yoga, boot camp and
aqua fit. Additionally participants received a professional health assessment, access to
an online support group and a chance to win a grand prize as they competed, and
WHEREAS, the Challenge demonstrated to participants that maintaining a
healthier lifestyle takes patience and determination and when joined together, people
can hold each other accountable as they work towards their individual goals, and
WHEREAS, Councilman Robert Stephens is requesting that the City of Miami
Gardens waive the fees associated with utilizing the gymnasium at the Betty T.
Ferguson Recreational Complex for the purpose of hosting the 2021 Miami Gardens
Fitness Challenge, and
WHEREAS, the 2021 Fitness Challenge will take place over sixty (60) days
spanning across the months of January to March 2021, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 : ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens
hereby authorizes a rental fee waiver for the 2021 Fitness Challenge for the use of Betty
T. Ferguson Recreational Center.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its final passage.

GARDENS AT ITS VIRTUAL SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 14, 2020.
